"House Of Dreams is a Portland, Oregon, free roam, no-kill cat shelter, and the place where the idea for "Knits from the Heart" was born. In the fall of 2001, after volunteering at the shelter every Thursday afternoon since 1999, I organized what became the first annual Pretty Kitty Holiday Craft Bazaar fund-raising event. I was amazed at the generosity of the shelter’s volunteers and the community at large in donating beautiful hand made items for our fund-raiser. Repeatedly people shared how good they felt about taking the time to create something by hand and then releasing it to benefit another. It is my intention that "Knits from the Heart" will help more people discover the happiness that comes of generously sharing one’s talents with the world.
The projects in this book are suitable for giving to your best friend when she becomes a mom-to-be, to your favorite nephew on his birthday, or to the homeless shelter downtown. And don't ever forget the importance of knitting a little something to give to yourself now and then! However you choose to use these patterns, I hope that you find "Knits from the Heart" to be a useful collection of designs that you can turn to whenever you need something special."
